ReplyDeleteCreating this podcast was very simple using Audioboo. I was able to learn how to use the app quickly and it was very user friendly. I think Audioboo would be very easy to use in my classroom as the kids would be able to catch on to it very quickly.
I felt the most challenging part of this assignment was actually writing my "This I Believe" statement. Using the app to create my podcast was a breeze. Also, I liked how Audioboo allowed you to upload the podcast to many differnt sites. This would allow ease in sharing the student's podcasts. Overall, I had a very positive expereince in writing, creating and uploading my podcast. In the future, I would like to integrate the use of podcasts in my classroom.
I thought that writing the statement was the most difficult part, as well! I use Ipadio and can't complain. It was simple and I'm glad I have an account now so that I may use it with my students!
DeleteI am tutoring a student this summer and am already planning on making a podcast, or two, with him!
DeleteI agree, writing the essay was the hardest part. I used Ipadio and it was very easy to use. It was very user friendly and if ever I do decide to do a podcast in my P.E. class I will use Ipadio.
DeleteI felt writing was somewhat difficult, yet my struggle was trying to recite it back without becoming entangled in my words! The benefits to students doing this would be great, yet would require good access to computers at home if required as a long term assignment or homework.
DeleteI also liked how audioboo was very user friendly. I also had a hard time coming up with a statement but once I got started it wasn't bad.
DeleteIt is hard to put into words such an open ended thought or statement. It could go off in so many directions. However, it was nice to do and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
DeleteI used ipadio, but I think I will try audioboo next time since you mention that you could upload to many different sites. I agree with you that writing the essay was more difficult than the actual podcasting. I found it most difficult to decide what to write about.

I tried both Audioboo and Ipadio and personally liked Ipadio better. To me, it seemed easy to navigate and easily accessible. I found that creating a podcast was easier than I ever expected! I wrote my story in Microsoft Word and, after signing-in to an Ipadio account, simply used my phone and spoke into it as I would if I were speaking to someone on the other line. The reception seemed to be clear and I could hear my recording immediately and perfectly.
I could very well see me using Ipadio in my classroom. Since I already have an account set up, all my students would have to do is speak into my phone to create another podcast! I did not feel as though any aspect of setting up Ipadio was difficult or challenging. It was very easy and my phone and the Website did all of the work for me! Now that I have an account, I believe the opportunities are endless. Not only can I use this site for reading and math activities, but I can also use this site to share my information and listen to other podcasts. I believe Ipadio is not only an excellent learning tool, it is also a means of communication and learning for all.
Like you, I found creating a podcast was very simple. I didn't expect it to be that simple AND that quick! A podcast would be an easy and quick way to provide another learning style when students are not responding to the way you are currently teaching!
DeleteI liked your podcast. I'm like your older brother and was kind of distant to my little sister when we were younger because I thought my parents liked her more and spoiled her. Once we became adults though, I began to respect her for the adult she has become and we talk on the phone regularly and hang out here and there. I agree that Ipadio is a great tool for learning. It has a lot of potential for so many different aspects of teaching and learning.
DeleteAs soon as I get time, I am putting both of these apps on the iPads that I have in class. I would like to make a group or class and have my students record their thoughts in a journaling manner and use a different method of creating intimate conversations about what means a lot to them.
DeleteI also used ipadio, but I think I will check out the competition next time. I listened to your podcast and thought you did a great job. I enjoyed your essay and you did a great job reading aloud. Thanks for sharing.
DeleteHi James! I agree with you! It was kind of fun to record these podcasts. Recording them allowed you to actually think out what you wanted to say and edit as you went.
ReplyDeleteI had fun, too! If we had fun, I know our students will have fun making podcasts!
ReplyDeleteCreating this podcast was very easy using Ipadio. I am a little OCD so I believe I recorded myself at least 30 times. I am still not satisfied but if I didn't choose one I would be here all night. The hardest part was writing the essay. I believe it is user friendly and very simple. Students or teachers would be able to use this application without any problems. I like the fact that you can talk on the phone and record your podcast and then you can choose to keep it or record it again. Even though it's not something that I see myself using in my elementary P.E. classes, I do think it would benefit regular education and special education teachers. But on the other hand, I would probably use it if I were a middle/high P.E. teacher as a means for students to do a weekly Healthy Activities and Food Journal. I believe it would also benefit principals in the event they couldn't be at a meeting or work and they needed to convey a message to teachers.

I agree that writing the essay was the hardest part. I didn't think that using the podcast apps would be so easy!
DeleteI know I recorded myself 10 or so times. I hate hearing my voice on a recording/video so I was nervous about others hearing it to. All in all though it was pretty fun.
DeleteI really enjoyed your podcast and your voice sounded nice. The 30+ tries was very beneficial!
DeleteHi Katrina,
DeleteI can relate about the OCD in recording your voice. I wasn't very impressed with the quality of mine but I think that it is a problem with my phone rather than the software. I hate hearing my voice! I think although it is hard to find a way to use it in the elementary PE class it would be fun to explore and experiment with it. I think a really neat idea would be to get students to record themselves commentating a Youtube sporting clip, have a competition to see who does it the best..!

ReplyDeleteCreating this podcast was somewhat more challenging than I'd anticipated. I will say it's very interesting that all of these tools are available to the general public for free. I thought the audioboo was somewhat "buggy," seeing as it only accepted my file on the third attempt. Likewise, getting my newborn daughter and dog to remain quiet enough proved to be the greatest challenge! The opportunities to share your information across classroom, and various learning environments are limitless. The ability to provide concise information to large numbers of people very quickly, are entirely at the tips of your fingers.
I really enjoyed your podcast. You have a nice voice and talked at a nice pace. I also believe there are many opportunites to use this in the classroom.
DeleteLike you, I was surprised that this type of technology is free to use for the public. I find it so strange that it seems so beneficial, yet I have never heard of it before.
Deletehttp://audioboo.fm/boos/2193670-podcast-for-class
ReplyDeleteI found the technical part of the podcast activity very easy compared to coming up with content to use for the podcast. It was a bit like leaving a voice message on an answering machine. Google Voice was buggy so I went with audioboo since I am not using an iPhone. I downloaded it for free using the playstore app. I was able to do the recording on my phone. It took a few tries for various reasons of not liking the playback. It took a few minutes to publish.
I thought the technical side was very easy as well. I read some of the classes comments before choosing which app to use. I ended up using Ipadio, and it worked very well.
DeleteI agree with you Robert. It was a challenge to create the content, but the recording part was a breeze. I used Audioboo as well and loved it .
DeleteI thought creating the content was difficult too. I started over about 3 times. I tried both audioboo and ipadio and was able to record on my phone easily. The hard part for me was knowing what to do with it after the recording.
DeleteI really enjoyed your podcast. I agree that building a rapport with students makes a big difference.
ReplyDeleteToo much of a good thing, is still too much
ReplyDeleteFor this project I used ipadio. The app was very easy to install and it worked very well with my Samsung Galaxy S3. Although I have never used podcasts in the past, I do feel that they could be useful in the classroom. It would be a great way to send reminders to students and parents. I also think that my students would enjoy creating podcast to share with the class.
Angie- I agree with your views about the risks of technology. I was kinda freaked out that the podcast would show my location. I liked the "world plugged in all the time" phrase too. It seems that everything that we do involves technology in some way and what happens in a blackout? It has also caused a "right here, right now" demand on society. But then again it definitely has its advantages too.
DeleteAmerica
ReplyDeleteI have to say that this was fun to do. I have never used nor heard of a podcast before. I was really scared at first to try it. I can't stand to hear my own voice on a recording so I was nervous that others would hear me. I know it will take practice. I could definitely use it in my history classes for reminders, reports, and homework assignments. I just feel that I need more practice on its capabilities before I try it with my students. I know that they will be excited to escape the textbook and notes for awhile.
I felt the same way about hearing my own voice. It's crazy how much different it sounds than hearing yourself talk. I would definitely need more practice, but I'm willing to bet my students would just take the ball and run with this if I could come up with some type of activity to use this.
DeleteI can see all kinds of possibilities for a history class. This type of technology is very new to me, but I think it's awesome and I can't wait to use it with my classes next year. I agree, students will love the fact that it is different from regular assignments. I thought my voice sounded much younger than I am, but I guess that is what I really sound like.
DeleteThis I Believe Podcast
ReplyDeleteThe process of recording the podcast was very straightforward once I downloaded the app. I can see students having a blast with this. The hard part was creating the content and then trying to make the recording sound decent. I had a little trouble with the volume, but I can hear it on my computer if I turn my volume all the way up. Overall, this is something I may explore in the future, but I'm not 100% sure exactly how to implement this in my math classes.
I would like to use podcasts in my math classes to provide explanations for those students who are ahead of the rest of the class. I would also use them for those students who missed class so that they would not fall farther behind.
DeleteFor math activities, I read that it would be beneficial to have students record their own voices explaining the strategies they used to solve particular problems. This way, the students will be able to focus on their own understanding and will also be able to hear other strategies from their peers.
DeleteHi everyone,
ReplyDeleteMy podcast was completed with Ipadio, and it is about the underlying causes of unruly classrooms with problematic students. It can be located here:

Overall, I really enjoyed this experience. My voice is not what I expected, and I had to super slow down my speech. My entire mother's side of the family tends to talk fast. I think this would be a great idea for counselors that want people to report bullying, or personal problems without having to see them directly everyday. It would certainly be a lot faster than what they do right now, which is have a box where students can report bullying. In my Art classroom, this could certainly be used for art criticism, being able to express their opinions about a certain artwork without having to be embarrassed in front of the whole class. I could definitely use it to give out assignments since I always have special ed inclusion and freshmen that never listen the first or second time around. I could also see this for upper-level art students that have portfolios of work to create an artist statement that could be sent out over social media to help them and their art become more prominent in the art world.
I like your ideas for the podcasts, and agree it would be helpful for reporting bullying as well as critiquing artwork. If you ever have exhibits or an art walk, they could use the podcast as a description for those viewing the piece. Kind of like a fancy art museum.
DeleteLike you, I was surprised at how my voice sounded different than what I expected. It was nice to have the opportunity to record and re-record until the podcast was just as I wanted it to be.

ReplyDeleteI used audioboo to create my podcast. It was very easy to use. The only challenging part was listening to myself after I recorded it. I've never liked listening to myself talk. I could definitely see myself using this in my music classes.
I like you idea of using it in your music classes. I also did not like listening to myself talk.

ReplyDeleteMy podcast was created with Audioboo. This app is very user friendly and it was very easy to create and upload my podcast. What I liked the most was that it has a options as to how/where you would like to upload your material. I believe this is a wonderful tool to use in the classroom especially for those students who do not like to speak in front of others.
I enjoyed your podcast. It was very informative and I agree that there are many uses for a tool/app like this in a classroom.

ReplyDeleteI am having a great deal of trouble with this. My podcast was created with Audioboo. I think this could be very useful once I figure it out myself. I did not have any trouble recording the boo but it is what you do after that. I recorded both on my phone and on the computer itself. Getting it to here was difficult so I guess it's not user friendly to me, but I am not going to give up until I have it figured out.
The link you provided worked well for me! You are well spoken, and I appreciate your ability to face adversity and move on!

ReplyDeleteI used an existing account at Spreaker. This is a site that allows users to use their phone to create podcasts and radio shows. You can even broadcast your "show" live on the iheartradio app (not sure how that works yet). A 6th grade student showed this app to me a few months ago. He creates his own show, complete with music and comments in between songs. It's really cool. I had fun with this assignment, and was as nervous as if I were speaking to a room full of professionals. I apologize in advance for my country twang to those of you who listen.
I'll have to try this app out. I can see my music students liking something like this.
DeleteI really enjoyed your podcast. I am one of those veteran teachers who run away from technology. I did not grow up with it and I struggle with anything new. I am trying, by taking this class, to learn a little more about technology. My students just finished up making a power point of a lesson, and they loved it. So even if I struggle, I need to incorporate technology more in my classroom.
ReplyDeletewww.audioboo.fm/boos/2198026-this-i-believe-cell-phones-in-the-classroom
ReplyDeleteAbove is the link to my "This I Believe" podcast. I tried to speak off the cuff and not scripted. I think that is the way I would want my students to be. As an English teacher, I think that this would be a great way to do another version of journaling for other types of learners. I would like to give my students the options. You could either use the iPads or do an audio version of audio boo.
I can see so many way that they can share this info with their parents and with other students. I think you could also use this on my teacher website to share with colleagues and peers.
I like your idea of using podcasts to share information with other teachers. Podcasts would be a great tool for professional development.
DeleteI absolutely loved this activity and had a lot of fun completing it. The link to my podcast is here: http://www.ipadio.com/channels/RichardGlover
ReplyDeleteI completed my podcast on rugby and my love for it as a sport! I tried to write it like I would speak it if that makes sense. As a result, my written transcript is very conversational and informal in tone. I think there is a lot of scope for using this technology in the classroom. I used iPadio and found the interface very easy to use and understand. I imagine that my students would be able to use this technology without too much trouble.
What I really enjoyed about this technology on reflection was it's availability to everyone in the classroom. Yes, a lot of students may not have access to the internet or computers at home but everyone (surely) can get their hands on a phone of some description. I think it would make an excellent homework piece, with students completing the writing in school and then recording their podcast at home. I can't wait to try it out with my class!
It was shown by all of our surveys last week that almost every student in the classroom has a phone or has access to a phone! Podcasts would be very easy to incorporate into the classroom because of this!
DeleteI really enjoyed your podcast and there is no doubt that I felt as though you were "speaking" to me. I know nothing about rugby but enjoyed listening!

ReplyDeleteI struggled some with narrowing down a topic for my essay. It has been sometime since I've had to write a paper for a class and I was somewhat intimidated. After writing my paper, I downloaded the ipadio app. It was fairly easy to use, however my first run through never completed. It said error until I finally gave up and tried again. Then I went online at ipadio and found my podcast there. I felt like there could have been more instructions with the app to make it easier for beginniers like me. It could possibly be just me however, I have been having a lot of technical difficulty lately.
I do like the podcast. I think there are many uses for them professionally and personally. I look forward to trying my hand at using them in the future.
Bob I had the same problem while writing out my podcast, it started to flow a little better as I went along but man, it had been awhile since I had to write a essay.

ReplyDeleteI had a Great Time with this assignment. I used the Ipadio app for my podcast. I feel that this would be very easy for the students to use and the best part is you can use it at anytime anywhere. I will use this to record and send out podcasts to my students of any information I need to get to them.
I agree! Listening to your own voice is never what you think it is going to be! I always feel like my voice sounds so deep when I play it back.
ReplyDeleteyeah I wince when I hear my own voice, your never as cool as you think you are.
ReplyDeleteReally enjoyed doing the podcast, easier than I thought it would be. Here is the link to it. http//www.ipadio.com/channels/William Adkins/
ReplyDeleteI used ipadio for the assignment I just think that this would be the easiest one for the majority of my students to use. I look forward to seeing how next year's 8th graders use this to their advantage, they are sharp bunch coming up but I know none of them have ever used podcasts in the classroom before, which will make for some interesting times I am sure.

ReplyDeleteI want to apologize to all of you for posting my podcast so late, but I had some family issues to deal with.
I, like many of you, felt that making the podcast was much easier than writing the essay for the assignment. I actually wrote two others but decided to go with this one.
I used iPadio and it was really easy. I did have a hard time trying to find out how to link it to this blog. I actually made it much harder than it had to be! I clicked every link and button on the iPadio site and couldn't figure it out. I even emailed Debbie saying, "Help! I can't get it to link." Before I got a response, I opened my personal email (the one I registered the app with) and SURPRISE! There was an email with the link! Boy, do I feel stupid!
Anyway, here is my podcast...and this really is one if my pet peeves! People driving slowly in the fast lane.
SORRY IF ANY OF YOU ARE "SLOW" FAST LANE DRIVERS & I OFFEND YOU!
