Cell Phones as Learning Tools
Session Three
Poll Everywhere Activity
In this activity you will create your own poll in Poll Everywhere and share it with your colleagues on the blog. Sometimes it is easiest to learn about new technology tools by just playing around with them, so the poll you create can be just for fun (e.g., What is your favorite food? or, During which season were you born?) or it can be used to gather data for some research.
Make sure to take the polls posted by your colleagues as well so they can get the results and you can see what it is like to participate in a poll from the student perspective.
Also you can create a "quick link" to your poll by typing in the following:
WV Learns
The first highlighted area is the URL address for your poll. The second is the name you want to display.

ReplyDeleteWV, of course!
DeleteCera,
DeleteI took your poll and learned something very important. Be careful with a slow computer, because you might get "click happy" and choose the wrong answer, which I did. Go Herd!!!
This was a fun poll. It will be interesting to see the results.
DeleteAnd yes, Go Herd!
Bob,
DeleteIt may have been an accident, but I think you went with the right choice! =)

ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this activity and have used this survey technology in the past. It's fast, free, and east to navigate!
Hi Meighan,
DeleteI was able to access your poll. Fun topic.
I agree, I enjoyed this activity. It was very easy to use.
DeleteI found this activity to be very easy to use. I've never used this website before but I can see myself using this with my classes in the future.
ReplyDeleteMy poll can be found at:

I took your poll, as well. My favorite season is summer. It's just around the corner now!
DeleteSummer, of course!! =)
DeleteI like how we are able to see all of the diferent ways you can set up the polls. (multiple choice, fill in, etc.)
I enjoyed this activity. I will definitely use this with my classes.

I took your poll. I chose the drums. I'm actually starting to do this just for fun!
DeleteI could never play the guitar, but I do love to listen to someone else play!!
DeleteI took your poll. Nice topic!
ReplyDeleteI liked your survey. I am interested to see how everyone votes on this one.
ReplyDeleteClick here to take my poll!
ReplyDeleteHi Michael. I don't think you published your poll. I clicked on the hyperlink and there was no poll available yet.
DeleteI had this same problem with mine using the hot link. If you just paste the URL it seems to work better. And make sure that you push the poll when you create it.
DeleteI did push it once already and it worked for me. I just tried it again. I haven't been able to see any other polls that were posted here either, so it must be something I'm (not) doing.
DeleteI really enjoyed this activity also although I am having difficulty in viewing other classmates polls. I keep getting a picture of a pie and being told that I have to wait until the presenter displays the poll. Has anyone else had this problem? So confused why it works for everyone else and not me!! Here is my poll below, hopefully it works for you guys!

I am having the same issue. Others have responded to my poll question but I have not been able to see anyone else's.
DeleteRichard,
DeleteDid you happen to find a resolution to not being able to view the polls. I have tried just about everything, but I am still unable to view other polls.
I can't wait to see the results of this poll!
DeleteThis was a good one!
DeleteThe only polls I have been able to respond to are the ones that post the entire URL.
DeleteThis one was too much fun!
DeleteThis was a good activity. The site was very easy to use. If I were a middle or high school P.E. teacher I could see myself using it with my students. But, as far as elementary goes, I really don't see myself using it.
ReplyDeleteYou can view my poll at: pollev.com/greenlion754
I changed my poll name. Hopefully it will work. So you can now view my poll at:
Deletepollev.com/katrinadaniels
It would be more difficult with elementary students, for sure!

ReplyDeleteGood question. I said yes to both
DeleteI answered no because I would gladly give up my phone for 35 minutes to avoid 35 minutes of homework.

ReplyDeleteI had some problems originally getting poll everywhere to work on the school PC. It worked fine on my iPad though. Did not like the text a code a number set up. While I understand and appreciate these services which set up a buffer between my cell phone number and those of students I remember the training last year where four teachers lost their jobs over texting with students and think that there are some safer alternatives that I personally would use. The current grading program Engrade offers many of the same class announcement features and socrative and nearpod offer the option of responding to real time polls as well.

I understand any hesitation using cell phones in school with the current climate among the media and others, quick to make headlines with "dirty" or "rogue" teaches. It's a fine line to tread.
DeleteI understand your hesitation, as well. Hopefully this course will allow you to "get used" to the idea of using cell phones more.

ReplyDeleteI enjoyed this activity. This seemed very easy to do and would be quite interesting to see how what types of polls older students would do, assuming some guidelines would need be placed ahead of time! Otherwise, very fun and enjoyed the ease of use.
Easy one to answer lol. Of course now I want to go on vacation.
DeleteI created a poll just like this haha. I'm sure it's on all our minds since the end of the school year is near. I can't imagine how inappropriate some of my high school students could be for creating polls. I agree that guidelines would be a must.
DeleteI was easily able to view this. How do you set it up so that when you click on link, it takes you directly there?
DeleteMy favorite season of school poll.

My first poll, pretty simple but fun I look forward to doing more of these.

ReplyDeleteThis activity was much more fun than I thought. I think students will enjoy it greatly.
I liked seeing how the other fill in your own answer response looked like. I think it would be good for an answer that wasn't just clear cut, such as your question. I enjoyed it.
DeleteI love dogs! Good question.

ReplyDeleteI found this to be frustrating only because I couldn't figure out how to push it, then when I did figure it out, my internet went out for the majority of the day. It's fine now. Anyways, check out my poll!
I could not see your poll.
DeleteAnd, when I went back to check my poll, I saw the same "easy as pie" message! :(

ReplyDeleteI am trying this for the third time. Hopefully it worked this time
I worked for me! Gave me a lot to think about this morning.

ReplyDeleteForgive the name! I've been a fan of Poll Everywhere since I was introduced to it in 2009 at a training conference. I've used it a number of times, most recently at a school dance. We tried to have a place for kids to send "shout outs" to their friends that would appear on a projector. And it was nice and fun for an hour, then the posts became mean and/or inappropriate, so I shut it down. The questions presented on the link above are from an in-service I presented to some fine arts teachers a couple of years ago at my school.

ReplyDeleteI loved this! I will definitely use this in my classes. This is a wonderful way to access student learning and interest.

ReplyDeleteI too like your use of images as well! I can see this being beneficial for students with reading difficulties.
DeleteI like your use of images!
ReplyDeleteThank you! The first on of the beach is from our trip to Cedar Point. I am happy to know that it is viewable!!!! Every time I try to click the link and view it, I am getting an error message! So, can you see the writing for the choices (such as; go to the beach, go camping) or just the pictures??
DeleteI didn't see any text or writing, just the images!
